Golf & More

For fairway enthusiasts, Golf Digest has recently cited Montana's Flathead Valley among the "50 Greatest Golf Destinations in the World." Ten minutes from Kootenai, Bigfork's Eagle Bend Golf Club has been rated the #1 course in Montana for six years in a row. With gorgeous view of Flathead Lake and the Swan Mountains, Eagle Bend has a championship 18-hole course and the renowned "Nicklaus Nine" by Nicklaus Design. Eight other courses lie within forty minutes of Kootenai.

A short distance from the Kootenai, there are miles of backcountry byways on which to hike, snowshoe, mountain bike, cross-country ski and horseback ride. All seven miles of Swan Lake, and most of Swan River, are superb for powerboating, fishing, swimming, kayaks, canoeing, pedal-boats or simply whiling away an afternoon on a raft or inner tube.

Just before Memorial Day, when Swan River is still full from the spring melt of winter snow, a section of river known as the "Wild Mile" attracts an international group of competitors, kayak on the Class V rapids. In the lazier days of summer, families can be seen tubing the river from the north end all the way to the Highway 209 take-out.

With 77 mountain ranges and 2000 lakes, Montana provides plenty of opportunities for skiing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, dog sleds, boating, golf and just about every other activity under the sun.
